Washcloth Woman

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but my Mother has a thing about washcloths.  She always has washcloths on her Christmas list and no matter how expensive or high quality a washcloth is she can wear it out in a year.  I don’t think I have ever worn out a washcloth, gotten tired of the color and bought new ones, yes, but not worn out.  She says they get thin in the middle, I must use mine differently.  I’m more of a pouf user anyway.

When I started knitting washcloths were a good way to try out new patterns without a big commitment and they were really good practice.  Bonus, I really liked knitted washcloths and so did my mom.  I don’t have a pattern that I always use, I like to try out new stuff, but I may have found my go to washcloth pattern:  The Linoleum Dishcloth.linoleum cloth 1 I love this pattern because it makes a thick, textured cloth that is easy to knit and the back looks nice too.linoleum cloth 2This would be great for a beginner, the only thing you need to be able to do is the knit stitch and the slip stitch and using multiple colors is easy, only one per row.  I think that I would prefer this pattern in only two colors, what can I say I like it simple.WHAM dishcloth On my needles now is the Amber Perry dishcloth, I like the pattern, but there is no texture and I even tried to add a bit by using garter stitch in the design.

I’m making these for a friend, we are doing a trade washcloths for soldering, I think it’s a fabulous deal!  I will be making one more, I just need to decide what pattern to use.  What is your go to dishcloth/washcloth pattern?, I’d love to try something new.

Circle Cloth

I just finished this little dishcloth using this circle cloth pattern. It looks more like a honeycomb to me, but whatever :).I made mine a little smaller and added a crocheted border. I used sugar n' cream hot blue and peaches and cream peppermint yarn. I don't know what it is about dishcloths, but I love to make them! I guess it's instant gratification and a good way to try new patterns.
And for those of you on the edge of your seats waiting to see what I'm making for Christy's craft challenge here's a little peek.
This is part of the burlap and one of the clothes pins being glued.

As promised, here's a cereal box being mutilated, I'm going to do some gluing later and maybe some shrinky dinks.

Ball Band Dishcloth part 2

I finished my set of ball band dishcloths. I did rip out the original crochet edging and redid it using a smaller hook and I am satisfied with how they look now.My husband and I have been debating on which one we like best, I like the red in the background and he likes the other one. Now I need to look through my stash and see what other cotton yarn I have and what color combos I can try. I used up all but a tiny bit of the red to make both of these, so it is definitely a good stash buster.

Ball Band Dishcloth

I think that knitted dishcloths and washcloths are a luxury, it's funny how they used to be practical and now we just buy them in sets to match our towels. I like to knit them up once in a while for myself or to save for gifts, everyone I've given them to loves them.
I am always looking for interesting patterns to try and I have seen the ball band dishcloth everywhere and thought it would be complicated to knit, boy was I wrong!
I knitted this up in an evening while watching TV. The pattern gives the cloth great texture and, I imagine, scrubbing power. I decided to add a crocheted edging, but I think I used to large of a hook and it came out rippled, so I am going to go back and redo it, but I was excited to share. Now I need to make one with the variegated black for the background and red for the bands! The pattern is on the peaches and cream label or here if you would like to try it for yourself.
