Crochet Chevron Cozy

I posted a teaser photo of the start of this cozy on the Facebook Page a week and a half ago and then vanished off the face of the Earth. Between Thanksgiving and the stomach flu (that the entire family had on different days) I have been offline a lot.zigzagbag and lining choices
The crochet part of the bag is finished, I used the Moon Water Clutch pattern from Lion Brand yarn as a starting point. The pattern is free, but you will have to register with them to see it. I used Hobby Lobby’s I love this yarn and an I hook to get the perfect size to hold a notebook or organizer. I love this design, fun and easy! When I filled in the chevrons on the inside top I used black yarn only, I thought that if I made any mistakes that a solid color would help hide them.zigzagbag
I love how it turned out, but is still needs a lining with some stiff interfacing to give is some structure and to make it easier to slide my organizer out without snagging the yarn. That’s where you come in, I need help deciding what fabric to line it with.  I have narrowed it down to four choices: Chartreuse polka dots with fuchsia flowers, orange batik, sugar skulls on black, and that giant floral print that I have used numerous times before. What would look the best? I’m dying to hear what you think.

Quick Custom Cell Phone Cozy

I have a brand new cell phone for my new job and since it will be spending some time in the bottom of my purse I decided it needed a cute cozy.

For this project you will need non fraying fabric* (I used some of my sparklicious collaged fabric, but I thing that glitter vinyl would be awesome too!), felt, ruler, paper, pencil, and a sewing machine with the zigzag stitch.cell cozy 1 I started out by tracing around my phone. Then I measured how thick my phone is (btw it’s 5/8”) and added a 5/8” border all around the original shape and rounded the corners.cell cozy 2 I folded my paper in half and cut out two of this shape. I cut 1” off the top of one template to make the front and then I cut the two shapes out of fabric and felt.cell cozy 3 Match up the pieces, one vinyl to one felt with the wrong sided together. Using the zigzag stitch I sewed across the straight edge of the shorter pieces, treating the felt and vinyl like one fabric. With felt sides facing each other and vinyl facing out zigzag around the entire edge. cell cozy 4 Clip threads and you’re finished with you cute, custom cell phone cozy! I have my phone peeking out, but it fits entirely inside and slides in and out just perfectly.

*I recommend using non fraying fabric for this project because the pieces are just zigzagged together and the edges could fray. You could use a woven fabric, but be aware that you may need to use a tighter zigzag or finish the edges with fray check.

Candy Cane Cozy

While wondering around the internet I found this adorable pattern for a candy cane cozy on zakka life blog, (it is a great blog and there are a lot of inspiring projects, check it out). I am also anti-candy cane and right now, as I type, two little children are begging for candy canes that I bought to fill up my own cozies.
I love the idea of keeping track of the candy canes on the tree and this is a very quick project. I used some leftover cotton and crocheted a chain for it to hang on instead of a ribbon. Mine still needs some sort of embellishment on the end (maybe a pom pom), but they will look great on my packages this year!
